DAY 1

What a day it has been! At the moment, I am writing from the roof of a restaurant with a 360 degree view of Athens, including a great view of Acropolis. Btw, you need to visit Acropolis one day. Grand, Magnificent, etc. doesn't cover it. It's awesome.

We've spent the day getting a room at Athens Backpackers, the fifth best hostel in the world! at 26 Euro for a good room with a great shower, I'm really happy. There's a bar on the roof(!) with a great evening view, and totally awesome staff. By the way, our roommate thinks that Magnar (and not I) looks like Edward Cullen! However, the receptionist thinks I'm fearless. So my name is now Thomas Fearless Aarholt.

More to come

The train and airport

6/7-2009 kl 00.50
Train ride's gone smoothly. One problem though: We arrive as the only ones at Rygge station, and hesitantly wait for the free shuttle bus to take us the remaining miles to the airport. Well, it turns out that there's no bus this late, so we walk! Using our knowledge of where west was (which you find by throwing a caterpillar in the air and looking at which way it crawls when it hits the ground), and by listening for the motorway and walking towards it (surprisingly the latter helped us the most), we only used an hour and a half of walking after midnight.
Finally arriving at the airport, we're very relieved that the doors are unlocked. We are definitely the first to check in (on a computer - there wasn't a soul around), before plunking down on sofas which probably would have been a bit too small for either Sofie or Lisa. It was kinda exciting when the night guards came walking around, and didn't notice us! :p (I believe both me and Mag shared the thought of "don't make a sound" for a few minutes there)

Oh, and Mag wants to add that there was a very cool cyclist-killing tree lying in the middle of our path on the way to the airport. Thanks to him, I am still with you. (it was approx. in head height, (my head height).

Getting there

6/7 - 2009 kl. 22.35

I'm now sitting on the bust, heading to Oslo S. My only thought is that this feels unreal. I've seen people like my current self on the tube, with a big rucksack and a strange hairstyle. It's a rather exciting, but I don't really think I've fully understood that I'm going on holiday yet.

It's raining, though, and that's a plus! Would have been sad leaving lovely weather behind. Meeting Magnar in Oslo, then taking train to Rygge. Spending the night at the airport. Yawn.

Island Hopping in Greece

So, me and Magnar are planning on island-hopping through Greece! I've decided to blog the trip, to let you know how we are doing and that we are still in one piece (or at least carrying our pieces with ut. Well, that we have a pulse.)

So expect to hear interesting things from us!
